Marine Corps Cake Cutting Ceremony
"Resolved, That two battalions of Marines be raised..."
The famous words of an act of Continental Congress that resulted in the birth of the United States Marine Corps on 10 November, 1775. This year members of the Virginia Tech Semper Fidelis Society celebrated the Marine Corps' 229th Birthday. Col Wesley Fox, USMC (ret) and Medal of Honor recipient spoke to guests and members of the Virginia Tech Semper Fi Society about the values and traditions of the Corps. The Marine Cake Cutting Ceremony is one of the most honored traditions within the Marine Corps and brings all Marines closer together, regardless if they're active duty or civilian, young or old. Happy 229th Birthday Marine Corps and Semper Fidelis!!!
The Color Guard and Sword and Cake Cutting Details did another great job during the formal cake cutting ceremony.
Cake cutting ceremony. Traditionally the first pieces of cake go to the guest of honor, the oldest Marine present, and the youngest Marine-option midshipman present.
Col Fox gave a motivating speech about being a Marine and highlighted some of the famous quotes of the Marine Corps.
After the formal ceremony Marines and future Marines socialized together and members of Semper Fi Society got a chance to listen to some good "sea stories" from older Marines.
