LT Matthew Pierman Luff

 

LT Matthew Pierman Luff was born in Cincinnati, OH in 1979 and graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1997.   In May 2001 he graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.  While at Marquette, he was a member of the university alpine ski team and was active in the NROTC unit as Battalion Commander and the sailing team leader.  He was commissioned as an Ensign through the NROTC Program.

Upon completion of officer nuclear training, LT Luff reported to the USS Nevada (SSBN 733) homeported in Bangor, WA. While LT Luff was stationed onboard NEVADA, the ship completed five deployments including four strategic deterrent patrols. LT Luff served as the Electrical Assistant (EA), Damage Control Assistant (DCA), Navigation Division Officer, ship's drill coordinator, Quality Assurance Officer, and the Assistant Engineer (AENG).  While onboard the NEVADA, LT Luff completed the Prospective Nuclear Engineer Officer course (PNEO) and qualified Nuclear Engineer.

In December 2005, LT Luff reported to NROTC Virginia Tech as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science, the Third Class Midshipmen Advisor, and the Officer Candidate Advisor.

LT Luff's awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various unit awards.
