Battalion Staff Descriptions

Battalion Commander:

  • Head of the midshipmen battalion
  • Ultimate responsibility of the battalion
  • Needs to be confident and well spoken
  • Needs to have ideas and good planning skills

Battalion Executive Officer:

  • Second in command of the midshipmen battalion
  • Acts as a liaison between the Battalion CO and the Company Commanders
  • Works closely with the MCPO and Battalion Staff to ensure the unit is running properly and effectively
  • Oversees Battalion Staff, events and planning

Master Chief Petty Officer:

  • Works closely with the Midshipman Battalion CO, Battalion XO, Company First Sergeant and CPOs
  • Needs to be reliable
  • Needs to have organizational and correspondence skills, a good command presence/voice, and confidence
  • Organizes all prolabs, trips, Navy Unit merchandise sales, and any other Battalion activity

S-1, Adjutant:

  • Maintain accountability within the battalion and at all events
  • Collect accountability at all Battalion events
  • Keeps records for all meetings
  • Supervise delivery of all request chits to unit
  • Support CO and XO with administrative functions of their duties

S-2, Public Affairs Officer:

  • Maintains website (does not necessarily need website skills, but it would be helpful)
  • Takes pictures/videos at Navy Unit events/activities
  • Acts as a liaison between public and the Navy Unit
  • Maintains Midshipman chain of command (picture) board
  • Plans and organizes the Navy/Marine Corps Birthday Ball

S-3, Operations Officer:

  • Runs all of the Battalion operations
  • Establishes and maintains Battalion operations schedule
  • Needs to have skills in public speaking, organizational skills, and a flexible work schedule

S-4, Supply and Finance Officer:

  • In charge of Midshipman bank account
  • Handles all deposits/withdrawals and reimbursements
  • Orders Navy Unit merchandise
  • Keeps inventory of merchandise
  • Coordinate with Unit Supply and Budgeting Officers on all matters of finance and supply

S-5, Academics Officer:

  • Runs the study hall program (meets with class advisors, makes study hall lists, updates lists, monitors volunteers, makes monitor schedules, records individuals total hours)
  • Creates guidelines for the study hall program
  • Unlock/lock the Navy conference room for tutoring programs
  • Organize the Academic Award Ceremony
  • Create midshipmen tutoring schedules
  • Coordinates with Company Academic Officers

Physical Training Coordinator:

  • Collects daily/weekly PT plans from Company COs
  • Organizes and runs the remedial PT program
  • Collects all PFA results
  • Cognizance over Company PT Coordinators
